The Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area is located in The Wulingyuan District of the City of Dayong, Hunan Province of China and is known for its stone pillars that reach over 1km in height and resemble the ones seen on Pandora. As this is were james cameron drew inspiration for his movie Avatar.

Approximately 3000 thats the number of quartzite sandstone pillars that can be found in the area.

The pillar like formations are the many geographical attraction of the place. They are said to be the result of many years of erosion. It is moist throught the year, and as a result, the foliage is very dense. Its intresting to know that much of the erosion which forms these pillars are the result of expanding ice in the winter and the plants which grow on them. These  formations are distinct scene in china and it can be even found in ancient paintings.
