The country made Light Combat Aircraft is soon to be induced in Indian Air Force. After a 30 year long wait, India will be armed with its indigenously designed and built fighter plane. Tejas came closer to its induction on Friday with the second Initial Operational Clearance certificate.

This aircraft is light weight multirole fighter featuring technologies such as integrated digital avionics system, fly-by-wire flight control system, relaxed static stability, multi-mode radar, a flat rated engine and composite material structures. It is a single engine powered compound delta-wing, tailless aircraft, emerged from the Light Combat Aircraft programme.

Tejas means Radiance and it was named by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) had to face many setbacks and criticism claiming the project as wasting money. It was on the verge to be abandoned. By the end of 2014, it is expected that Tejas will get its final operational clearance and hope it will be inducted into the Indian Air Force by 2015.
